Are you asking deep questions about the way you are responding to your career? As we witness lives changing through redundancy and economies and institutions breaking down all around us, you are not alone.
In the 18th Century when the Industrial Revolution saw unprecedented growth and transformation, we needed to have a specific mind-set. The book “The Wealth of Nations” by 18th Century Philosopher Adam Smith, paved the way for what became a win-lose business mentality.
Careers were set on a trajectory that required us to get to the top of our game regardless of what, or who was in the way. This attitude has given rise to unsustainable pressure and emotional and physical symptoms of stress are the outcome.
The values that were important then are being examined by many as we recognise old methodologies are no longer working. Indeed, I think we have evolved beyond them, but we’re struggling to find a new model.
I believe that one of the ways forward is emerging in the form of heart centred intelligence.
What is Heart Intelligence?
In 2010 I had the pleasure of studying with Dr Bruce Cryer, Global Director of the Institute of HeartMath. HeartMath are a recognized global leader in emotional physiology, optimal function, resilience and stress-management research. This research has significantly advanced understanding of heart-brain interactions, heart-rate variability (HRV) and heart-rhythm coherence, and the physiology of optimal learning and performance. (http://www.heartmath.org/)
They describe heart intelligence as “the flow of awareness, understanding and intuition we experience when the mind and emotions are brought into coherent alignment with the heart. It can be activated through self-initiated practice, and the more we pay attention when we sense the heart is speaking to us or guiding us, the greater our ability to access this intelligence and guidance more frequently.”
I use the practice of heart intelligence to help my clients navigate their way more easily through their career, or towards a new one if they’re wishing to change direction. Its a very simple methodology and is easily accessable to anyone.
If you’re interested to know more about heart intelligence and how it can help you respond to your career differently, or navigate towards a new, more fulfilling one, then I’d be only too pleased to connect with you.
