After 35 years in a telecoms company where my client, Keith had achieved a senior position he realised he was tired of the corporate life, the projects that never completed, the performance management processes that seemed to have nothing to do with encouraging people and helping them to perform better. Keith recognised he needed a career change.
He knew there must be a more rewarding way to spend the huge amounts of his time he spent at work. But he felt that because he no longer had a passion for telecoms, he probably didn’t have the energy and enthusiasm to pursue something different at this point in his life.
The Challenge
After so many years feeling unfulfilled with the same company, Keith needed to find some direction and energy.
Keith said,
‘Sandra was recommended to me by a friend who had recently left the Telecoms company where we had both worked for many years. To be honest I did not think a ‘life coach’ was the answer and at best might be somebody who would listen to my woes! I was very wrong about that.’
Keith felt that were things he thought he might like to pursue, skills he felt he could use, and then there were the barriers, real or imagined that were stopping him pursuing new goals.
While working with Keith, I’ve taken him through a number of different processes that allowed him to gently open up the options that now lay before him. I’ve helped him examine his strengths, and discover and zero in on what would really make him happy to get up and go to work each day. I’ve provided structure and focus tailored to suit his specific needs, allowing him to maintain the momentum required to pursue a new career.
The Result
Since our first meeting in September 2011, Keith has left his company of 35 years, moved abroad, sold his first professional photograph and he continues to move purposely towards his new career goal.
Keith says,
‘One of Sandra’s great talents is to offer realistic and pragmatic advice. It’s all very well discovering your goals, but there are mortgages to pay and bills to be covered. Sandra has helped me create a plan and a vision of where I want to be. I may not be able to achieve everything today, but I know where I’m going and how it can be achieved.
The plan has changed and moved during the process. Sandra’s advice has been valuable at helping me reassess as needed.
To anyone thinking about a change of career, or who just needs some help to understand what it is they really thrive on, I cannot recommend Sandra’s services enough. She has helped me help myself to make changes to realise a more rewarding life.’
